Communities and the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB)

In November 2009, Social Action and SDN organized a consultation on the Petroleum Industry Bill in Nigeria. Held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, it gathered civil society leaders, community representatives, traditional rulers, youth, women, academia, and media. This report outlines the discussions, aiming to engage stakeholders excluded from the bill’s drafting. The report underscores the need for community and civil society input into the PIB, advocating for informed decisions and democratic rights in governance and policy-making. The goal is to facilitate meaningful contributions towards the bill’s passage and ensure its alignment with community interests and democratic principles.
