Niger Delta Multi-Stakeholders Development and Accountability Summit 2024
THE MULTI-STAKEHOLDERS SUMMIT
Given the significant developmental challenges facing the Niger Delta, including infrastructural deficits, widespread poverty, and a declining quality of life, Social Action and its partners propose the convening of a Multi-Stakeholder Summit. Themed “Building the Niger Delta Hope: Collaborating for Inclusive Development and Public Accountability,” the summit aims to dissect the region’s developmental hurdles, identify financial intervention gaps, and bolster the accountability of development projects. Recent initiatives by the NDDC’s new leadership have highlighted a commitment to broadening the region’s developmental agenda by engaging private sector allies, aiming to bridge the sustainability gap through coordinated, impactful development efforts.
In alignment with this renewed focus, Social Action and its collaborators advocate for the summit as a platform for collective reflection and in-depth analysis of prior development initiatives. The goal is to carve out a robust, innovative path forward that is rooted in transparency, accountability, and exemplary governance. The summit is poised to unite a diverse array of stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, along with community representatives, to explore avenues for bolstering the NDDC’s operational efficacy, ensuring service delivery that is inclusive, accountable, and impactful.
Summit Objectives
The summit is guided by three core objectives:
Enhancing Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue: To facilitate a broad-based conversation aimed at reimagining the NDDC’s role and unlocking new avenues for transformative regional development.
Cultivating Collaboration: To strengthen partnerships among diverse stakeholders, thereby propelling forward the Niger Delta’s developmental agenda.
Embedding Accountability: To integrate principles of accountability into public projects, addressing the profound developmental needs of the Niger Delta and fostering inclusive, sustainable growth.
Accountability in Divestment Process: The Summit will promote discussion on enthroning accountability in IOCs Divestment and the need to address historical environmental challenges that plague the region.
