SUMMARY:Niger Delta Multi-Stakeholders Development and Accountability Summit 2024
DESCRIPTION:THE MULTI-STAKEHOLDERS SUMMIT \nGiven the significant developmental challenges facing the Niger Delta\, including infrastructural deficits\, widespread poverty\, and a declining quality of life\, Social Action and its partners propose the convening of a Multi-Stakeholder Summit. Themed “Building the Niger Delta Hope: Collaborating for Inclusive Development and Public Accountability\,” the summit aims to dissect the region’s developmental hurdles\, identify financial intervention gaps\, and bolster the accountability of development projects. Recent initiatives by the NDDC’s new leadership have highlighted a commitment to broadening the region’s developmental agenda by engaging private sector allies\, aiming to bridge the sustainability gap through coordinated\, impactful development efforts. \nIn alignment with this renewed focus\, Social Action and its collaborators advocate for the summit as a platform for collective reflection and in-depth analysis of prior development initiatives. The goal is to carve out a robust\, innovative path forward that is rooted in transparency\, accountability\, and exemplary governance. The summit is poised to unite a diverse array of stakeholders from both the public and private sectors\, along with community representatives\, to explore avenues for bolstering the NDDC’s operational efficacy\, ensuring service delivery that is inclusive\, accountable\, and impactful. \nSummit Objectives \nThe summit is guided by three core objectives: \nEnhancing Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue: To facilitate a broad-based conversation aimed at reimagining the NDDC’s role and unlocking new avenues for transformative regional development. \n  \nCultivating Collaboration: To strengthen partnerships among diverse stakeholders\, thereby propelling forward the Niger Delta’s developmental agenda. \nEmbedding Accountability: To integrate principles of accountability into public projects\, addressing the profound developmental needs of the Niger Delta and fostering inclusive\, sustainable growth. \nAccountability in Divestment Process: The Summit will promote discussion on enthroning accountability in IOCs Divestment and the need to address historical environmental challenges that plague the region. \nPARTNERS AND PARTICIPANTS TO THE SUMMIT \nSocial Action Nigeria\, supported by the MacArthur Foundation\, collaborates with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC)\, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)\, and other key stakeholders to host the Niger Delta Multi-Stakeholder Development and Accountability Summit. This collaborative effort aims to bring a diverse range of perspectives and expertise to the table\, ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing the region’s challenges. \nThe summit will gather a wide array of participants\, including representatives from the donor community and development agencies\, policy analysts\, experts from the private sector\, professionals from due process institutions\, members of professional organizations\, legislators from the region\, academics\, community leaders\, and representatives from women’s and youth organizations\, as well as civil society groups. This diverse participation is expected to foster a rich dialogue and contribute to the formulation of actionable strategies for development and accountability in the Niger Delta. \nEvent Details \nProposed Date: March 7\, 2024 \nVenue: Osborn La Palm Royal Resort\, Off Abacha Road\, Port Harcourt\, Nigeria

SUMMARY:Twitter Blast: No Divestment without Clean-up: Hold SPDC Accountable for Environmental and Social liabilities in the Niger Delta
DESCRIPTION:This is to invite you to a social media campaign taking place on twitter which is tailored towards calling out Shell and SPDC on their divestment processes and to demand for accountability for the Niger Delta people.\nThis divestment must be subjected to the rigorous pre-conditions set forth by Nigerian law\, reflecting a commitment to the environmental and resource justice that the Niger Delta peoples have long fought for. \nWe insist that Shell must be held accountable for decades of environmental degradation and human rights violations. A transparent resolution process must be established\, ensuring Shell’s full accountability before any transfer of ownership.\nHence\, we appeal to you to press down your thumbs and tag all relevant bodies.
