Fuel Hike: CRC Delta State Tasks FG on Hardship on Citizens

The Civil Rights Council (CRC) of Delta State has appealed to the federal government for an urgent and comprehensive resolution to the prevailing exorbitant cost of living, stemming from the recent fuel price hike, which has significantly impacted the well-being of Nigerian citizens.

Addressing the media from their Asaba office, the organization emphasized the necessity for the federal government to swiftly implement strategies that alleviate the consequences of the fuel subsidy removal. The CRC is determined to prevent citizens from bearing the brunt of the adverse effects caused by the manipulative actions of the subsidy interest groups.

Comrade Joy Edigbine, serving as both the Asaba coordinator of CRC and a spokesperson for the organization, conveyed deep disappointment over the situation. She implored the federal government to devise creative solutions to mitigate the hardships inflicted upon the populace as a result of the fuel subsidy withdrawal.

Edigbine criticized the leadership of President Tinubu’s administration for executing the removal of the fuel subsidy prior to addressing the issues plaguing the nation’s refineries. She contended that this approach is not conducive to effectively managing the economic challenges the country is currently facing. In her statement, she expressed, “Our concern deepens as we witness the dire state of the nation; lives are being lost, businesses are collapsing. This reflects poor planning and demonstrates an alarming level of insensitivity.”

The CRC’s impassioned plea underscores the urgency for the government to address the escalating cost of living and provide meaningful relief to Nigerian citizens in these challenging times.
