International Partners from Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Visit Social Action to Foster Solidarity and Discuss Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Landscape

Abuja, Nigeria – November 7, 2023 – Social Action was honoured to host a delegation from the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (RLS), led by Comrade Angela Odah, at our office in Abuja last Friday. The visit, which included RLS partners from Kenya, served as a significant platform for international solidarity, knowledge exchange, and strategic dialogue on the pressing issues facing Nigeria.

The primary objective of the delegation was to introduce their Kenyan partners to Social Action, a foremost partner of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Nigeria. The visit also provided a crucial opportunity for the international team to gain deeper, on-the-ground insights into the current state of the nation and the impactful work Social Action is undertaking to address key socio-economic and environmental challenges.

A Meeting of Minds: Sharing Insights and Building Synergies

The engagement featured a robust and enlightening conversation, where the Social Action team provided a comprehensive overview of our core programmes. Discussions delved into critical areas such as:

Resource Justice and Environmental Governance: Analyzing the complex dynamics of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, the ecological challenges in the Niger Delta, and the ongoing advocacy for community rights and equitable resource management.

Democratic Accountability and Civic Engagement: Examining the current political climate, the state of governance, and Social Action’s role in empowering citizens to hold public institutions accountable.

Socio-Economic Rights: Addressing issues of poverty, inequality, and the struggle for social justice in the context of national and global economic policies.

The delegation expressed keen interest in understanding the Nigerian context from a local perspective, and the Social Action team provided detailed analysis drawn from years of research, advocacy, and community engagement.

A Resounding Success and a Foundation for Future Collaboration

The visit was marked by a shared sense of purpose and a commitment to progressive change. The RLS delegation and their Kenyan partners were highly appreciative of the warm reception and the wealth of information shared.

Comrade Angela Odah, leading the delegation, remarked on the importance of such South-South exchanges, stating, “Bringing our partners together to learn directly from each other’s experiences is invaluable. The work Social Action is doing in Nigeria is not only critical for the nation but provides essential lessons for social justice movements across the continent.”

The Kenyan partners also shared their delight, noting the parallels and differences in their struggles and the new perspectives gained from the interaction.

Looking Forward

Social Action is immensely grateful to the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation for facilitating this fruitful exchange. The visit successfully strengthened existing partnerships and sowed the seeds for future collaborative efforts in the pursuit of social, economic, and environmental justice in Nigeria and across Africa.

We remain steadfast in our mission and are encouraged by the solidarity and support of our international allies.
